What is the difference between SEM and SMM?

In our life, we are always looking for a different version of what is the correct term for the meaning of something. While some people prefer to use one of the variants of their name, others prefer to maintain both versions in their own language. What is the difference between SEM and SMM? There are many reasons why you can’t just decide on the right variant, and this is sometimes even difficult if they have already been introduced to your family. It is a problem when it comes to choosing between semiotics and symbolisms.

In this article, I will explain to you how semiotics and symbolism differ from each other — how they work together — and I will talk about differences between them as well as similarities. Let’s dive into the topic!

In psychology, there are two main approaches to the study of human behavior. These are symbolic behaviorism (or behaviorism) and cognitive behaviorism. Symbolic Behaviorism focuses on the interpretation of human behavior by analyzing and explaining symbols, or the signs that a person uses while communicating with him/herself. On the contrary, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) aims at changing mental states through therapy.

Nowadays, this approach has become more popular than Symbolic Behaviorism when studying human behavior. According to psychologists, behavioral patterns can be traced back to childhood experiences and associations are created between things. By combining these two perspectives, researchers get an idea of whether a child behaved according to his beliefs or not.

How Does Emotion Affect Our Actions?

When it comes to emotions, they all affect our actions in one way or another. We all have experienced feeling happy, sad, terrified by a scary event, etc. For example, during my mother’s passing, I felt happiness because I knew she was safe and healthy and this made me feel a lot of love towards her. Or maybe I felt anger when seeing someone die. This caused me to act emotionally and I started crying. Another aspect of emotion is self-control.

If we feel sad or unhappy at some point in time, then those feelings may make us feel like doing bad things like stealing, breaking, hurting ourselves, etc. So, to keep ourselves away from such situations is important. Also, it might cause depression or panic attacks.

How do we react differently? To overcome emotions we need self-control and it varies depending on different events and circumstances. Sometimes we act impulsively, whereas there are times when we think before acting. A person who is depressed is different from someone who is happier since the latter reacts in a different manner than the former does.

Types Of Human Experience

Human experience consists of different types, such as conscious awareness and unconsciousness. Conscious Awareness represents knowledge acquired during the course of mental activity, while unconsciousness means that which remains unperceived even though it exists.

  • When we face certain problems, we try to solve them in the best possible way, but the subconscious mind tends to change our plans according to our past experiences. Such changes happen due to either positive or negative events.
  • Negative events include memories of sadness, grief, depression, failure, etc., whereas positive events consist of joy, excitement, hope, courage, etc. Positive experiences come as a result of positive thoughts, whereas negative experiences come due to negative thoughts.

As humans, we tend to perceive these types of experiences in different ways. But they are similar in many aspects, for instance, when faced with challenges, we tend to focus much on the positive features rather than negatives. Also, we tend to interpret our emotions differently depending on how others see us. Depending on the situation, we may choose to accept them or avoid making any decisions. However, all these factors also depend on the type of experience.
